This is not a personality quiz.
Count and capacity are not the same thing. You can have a full group chat, a golf foursome, and men who would show up if something terrible happened, and still have almost no one who knows what you are currently carrying.
The Friendship Load Test measures capacity, not popularity.
Instructions
Write down the names of your three to five closest non-romantic friends. Do the first pass without including a spouse or partner.
Score each friend on every statement below:
0 = No, almost never. 1 = Sometimes, partly true. 2 = Yes, reliably true.
The Seven Questions
I can tell this person about a serious problem before I have solved it.
This person knows at least one thing currently worrying me that most people do not.
I can ask this person for help or advice without first making myself look competent.
I trust this person to tell me when I am rationalizing, avoiding something, or out of line.
I know at least one thing currently weighing on this person, not just what is happening in his life.
We have contact when neither of us needs anything and nothing is wrong.
If I became noticeably withdrawn or unlike myself, I believe this person would notice and follow up.
Each friend can score 0 to 14.
Reading the Individual Score
0 to 4: Companion relationship. Real, but little evidence yet that it carries difficult material.
5 to 9: Partially load-bearing. Some support exists, but the relationship is selective or underused.
10 to 14: Load-bearing. This friendship appears capable of carrying difficulty, honesty, and reciprocal support.
Now ignore the total points and look at the number that matters:
How many friends scored 10 or higher?
Zero: You may have a functioning social network without a clearly demonstrated support network. The move is not to make five new friends. It is to test one existing relationship with slightly more truth.
One: You have a load-bearing relationship, and also concentration risk. Strengthen a second channel.
Two or more: You have some distribution. The question becomes reciprocity. Do those men experience you as load-bearing too?
Finally, repeat the exercise once more with your spouse or partner included. If your partner is the only person above 10, that is not a verdict on your marriage. It is useful information about the architecture around it.
The Closing Question
What is one true sentence that one of these men does not know yet, not because you are hiding it, but because you have never thought to tell him?
That sentence is the action step. No large disclosure is required.
This is a Clarity Drop reflection tool, not a validated psychological assessment. The scoring is editorial and practical. The underlying distinction between friendship structure and perceived support is informed by published research on men's friendship networks and well-being.
